Dr. Miflora M. Gatchalian (MMG) graduated in 1959 from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman with a degree of BS Food Technology. She earned her Ph. D from University of Tokyo under the JSPS Program. Dr. Miflora M. Gatchalian is a Fellow of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and is a Life Member and Secretary-General Emeritus of the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO). To honor her contributions, the APQO annually awards the “Miflora M. Gatchalian (MMG ) gold Medal” for a globally recognized Woman Quality Professional.This is the first in the world awards specifically given to a woman. She received in Budapest Hungary last October 2015, the “Academician Emeritus” Award from the prestigious International Academy for Quality (membership only by nomination of global peers).
Currently she is a member of the “Technical working group” (TWG) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bureau of Competitiveness for the continual improvement of the Philippine Quality Challenge (PQC) a simplified version of the Philippine Quality Award patterned after Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, a GLOBAL QUALITY RECOGNITION . She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Metrology Standards Testing and Quality (PMSTQ), a German funded organization mandated to facilitate the development of a National Quality Infrastructure (NQI). She is a Founding and Current member of the ECOP Institute for Productivity and Competitiveness (EIPC) Board of Governors which pioneered the ECOP Big Enterprise Small Enterprise (EBESE) approach to facilitate quality development of the SMEs in the Philippines.
