Last December 14, Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige served as a resource speaker at the TriCollege PhD Philippine Studies Writing Boot Camp held at the GT Toyota Hall of Wisdom. Her talk, “The Reality of Writing and Overcoming Blocks,”provided insights into the challenges of academic writing and the discipline required to complete a dissertation. Drawing from her experience as a Best Thesis Award recipient for her dissertation on Filipino diaspora engagement, she shared her structured approach—treating dissertation work like a full-time job, maintaining strict deadlines, and staying accountable through routine and discipline.
Acknowledging the struggles of writer’s block and motivation, Prof. Llige emphasized the importance of consistency over inspiration. She balanced productivity with self-care, taking breaks and traveling but also recognizing when to push through excuses. Her message was clear: writing a dissertation is tough, but persistence is key. “Do the work, get it over with, don’t prolong the agony,” she advised.
